Not only will we be privvy to some wonderful photographs of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, but it will also be Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s very first royal tour!

Announced in June, we’ve been given snippets of where the royal family of three will be visiting, but we were never sure of when it would take place.

And now, Prince Harry has finally filled us in by taking to the Sussex Royal Instagram account to share more details.

On Saturday, Prince Harry shared the news as part of their “monthly social awareness approach”.

“In just a few weeks our family will be taking its first official tour to Africa, a region of the world that over the past two decades has been a second home to me. Our team has helped create a meaningful programme that we’re so excited to share with you,” he wrote.

“On a personal note, I can’t wait to introduce my wife and son to South Africa! We’ll see all of you very soon. – The Duke of Sussex.”

The couple then shared the same message on their Instagram story on Sunday with a countdown clock, revealing that their journey will begin on 23 September, and urged their followers to “save the date and follow us on our journey”.

The Duke of Sussex and his family will first stop in Malawi to expand the reach of Prince Harry’s charity Sentebale.

They will also visit Angola to highlight the continuing problems from land mines, an issue that was very dear to Harry’s mother Princess Diana, as well as a stop-off in South Africa.

Princess Diana famously visited Angola to call for an international ban on landmines in January 1997. She made headlines around the world when she walked through an active land mine area and even detonated a mine in front of the press.

Sentebale, the charity Prince Harry founded after his gap year in Lesotho to help those suffering from AIDS, currently operates in Lesotho and Botswana and is now expanding its prevention program into Malawi.

Reports first surfaced of the Africa trip back in April and Buckingham Palace did not deny the reports.

“Any future plans for the Duke and Duchess are speculative at this stage,” the Palace said in a statement.

“No decisions have been taken about future roles. The Duke will continue to fulfil his role as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador.”

The last time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the African continent was during their whirlwind tour of Morocco shortly before Archie’s birth but it’s clear the continent is a very special place for the couple.
