It’s official: Prince George will soon attend this $10,000-a-term private school

The three-year-old will begin his education in September.

Kensington Palace have announced that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s eldest son, Prince George, will soon attend Thomas’s Battersea School in London.

“Their Royal Highnesses are delighted to have found a school where they are confident George will have a happy and successful start to his education,” the palace said in a statement.

The school is one of four family-run schools in London and despite the school boasting a location just a stone’s throw from their royal residence, Prince William and Duchess Catherine have opted for the middle-class, south west London branch.

The £6,385-a-term (approximately $AUD10,471) school currently has 544 day pupils, aged between four and 13.

Upholding a set of core values – kindness, courtesy, confidence, humility and learning to be givers, not takers – the elite school holds an impressive record of senior school entrance and scholarship successes. In fact, the Tatler Schools Guide says the “cream of the Battersea crop rises to the likes of Eton and Wycombe Abbey”.

Notable alumni include singer-songwriter Florence Welch and model Cara Delevingne.

It’s hard to believe little George is already off to ‘big school’! And their are plans in place for Charlotte too…

In a letter to parents of the co-educational outpost, head masters, Ben Thomas and Tobyn Thomas, commented on the royal’s impending arrival.

“A statement will be made today by Kensington Palace announcing that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have decided on Prince George’s next school,” the letter began.

“In advance of that announcement, we are delighted to let you know that they have chosen Thomas’s and that from September Prince George will be a pupil at Thomas’s Battersea.”

“This is clearly a significant moment for their family and most certainly for Thomas’s. Like so many parents, the Duke and Duchess have put a great deal of thought into the choice of their eldest child’s first ‘big school.’”

“The Duke and Duchess have made it clear that they do not wish Prince George’s attendance at Thomas’s to change its aims, values or ethos in any way. They would like, as far as is possible, for him to enjoy the same education that all of our pupils receive and for them to join the school community as all of our new parents do.”

They added: “There has of course been a certain amount of planning and preparation in advance of this announcement, particularly in the areas of security and communication. Pupils will be told the news at school today, members of staff have been briefed.”

The school’s extensive grounds also include a kindergarten, which Princess Charlotte, 22-months, is expected to attend.

The much-speculated decision may surprise royal watchers, who had largely picked the three-year-old to attend the same school as his father and uncle, Prince Harry.

The royal brothers were educated at Wetherby Preparatory School, a prestigious boys-only school, based just half a mile from Kensington Palace in Bryanston Square, London.

We can’t wait to see the royal tot on his very first day of ‘big school!’
