Yesterday, while most of the tour entourage were dazzled by Uluru in this unique part of Australia, Kate enjoyed a candid conversation all about her son George with a group of students at an afternoon tea party in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre.

A few of the girls wanted to know about George, including Shannon Hunt, 17, who bonded well with the new royal mum. “We asked if they missed him,” Shannon said afterwards. “Kate said that she’d love to have him here [in the Red Centre] with her.” The Duchess reportedly told them: ‘He’s been changing so much while we’ve been away’.

She also explained with a wry smile that the chubby babe, who Prince William has amusingly described as “a bit of a bruiser”, has grown an “extra fat roll” while they’ve been away.

And while George is happy and excitable on terra firma, Kate said: “He can get a bit grumpy on the long flights”. The third in line to the throne has two more to go. One short hop from Canberra to Sydney and then the more gruelling journey back to the UK.
