All he wanted was a fun night out but Prince Frederik of Denmark was left red-faced after being turned away by bouncers at a Brisbane pub for failing to produce relevant ID.
The 49-year-old and his entourage were reportedly stunned when the security wouldnโt let them into the Jade Buddha bar at the Eagle St Pier on Friday, the Daily Telegraph reports.
According to the publication Fred, who was Down Under for the Hamilton Island Race Week, wouldnโt take no for an answer and came back 15 minutes later flanked by seven Queensland policemen from the dignitary protection unit, who could indeed vouch for the royalโs age and identity.
Strict new laws in Queensland mean punters must be carrying either a passport or drivers license to be scanned at venues after 10pm.
Surely a police escort and being the heir to the Danish throne has got to be worth more than a driverโs licence?
The police were on hand to explain to the pub that Fred had been approved by the Office of Liquor and Gaming officials to bypass the stringent ID laws.

Instead of dropping the โdonโt you know who I am?โ line, the prince came back with seven police officers.
Luckily for Fred, Jade Buddhaโs co-owner Phil Hogan stepped in to save the day before the awkward situation escalated.
โItโs a stupid law. We always thought it was going to be a nightmare,โ a livid Mr Hogan explained over the treatment of his VIP guest.

Adding: โItโs happening all the time and the whole thing has been a nightmare from a tourist point of view. Itโs just a nonsense.โ
โItโs a real overreaction. This is just the tip of the iceberg with the Prince. Itโs happening all the time with normal people.โ
Allโs well that endโs well and after all, Prince Fred met his now-wife of 13 years Princess Marry at the Sydneyโs Slip Inn bar so itโs only fair to let the poor man in for a pint!
