Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik were overjoyed to be by eldest child Prince Christian’s side as the 15-year-old made his confirmation at the Fredensborg Palace Church in Denmark on May 15.

In front of just 25 guests, including his grandmother Queen Margrethe, 81, and his siblings, Princess Isabella, 14, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, both 10, the teen took part in the time-honoured royal and religious tradition in the same church his father Fred was confirmed 40 years ago.

“Prince Christian chose Fredensborg Church, which is a strong indication that even at a young age he’s very traditional, like his grandmother,” a Danish royal insider tells Woman’s Day.

“The future king is obliged to belong to the Evangelical Lutheran church as a part of old Danish law, which is why it’s such an important day.”

Scheduled to take place last year, the ceremony had to be postponed due to COVID restrictions, which the insider says “made the day even more important to celebrate for the family.”

Is Isabella a royal rebel?

She may have looked the perfect princess in the official portraits, but Isabella was caught on camera telling off mum Mary while the family lined up for photographers!

“I was supposed to go with Grandma… Don’t you get that?” the teen was overheard saying.

The royal source adds, “She must be aware that she can do ‘more’ on her own and act different than Christian – and get away with it! – because she is not expected to be the queen. She is simply not raised the same.”

“In the future we will probably see her being more rebellious than her siblings because she really is her own kind.”
