Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla have put on an emotional, united front in their first outing following the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
The Prince of Wales lost his father last Friday, April 9 – news that saddened many, and also sparked an outpouring of fond memories of the vibrant royal.
Now, the Prince has made his first public appearance since losing his father – and the emotion and heartbreak is clear.
Charles and Camilla visited the gardens of Marlborough House on Friday, where they viewed the beautiful ever-stretching flower tributes shared by fans and followers.
As they walked along reading the tributes and looking at the beautiful blooms, both Charles and Camilla were visibly moved.
One card read: “Thank you for all you have done for our country and looking after our lovely Queen. Rest in peace.”
Another included a youngsters sweet drawing of the Prince alongside the message: “Rest in peace”.
The day following Philip’s death, Charles shared a beautiful tribute to his dad in a video.
“My dear Papa was a very special person who I think, above all else, would have been amazed by the reaction and the touching things that have been said about him,” the 72-year-old heir to the throne said.
“As you can imagine, my family and I miss my father enormously. He was a much loved and appreciated figure and apart from anything else, I can imagine, he would be so deeply touched by the number of other people here and elsewhere around the world and the Commonwealth, who also I think, share our loss and our sorrow.”
Over the weekend, 30 royal guests will gather for a small service to bid farewell to the Duke.
Alongside the Queen, Charles and his siblings, Prince William, Duchess Catherine, Prince Harry and more will be in attendance.
While it’s undoubtedly a sad occasion, it’s also lovely to see the royals rally and support each other through this difficult time.
We’ll be providing all the updates as the service takes place over the weekend.
