Nothing says Christmas like a Royal Christmas card. And today Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall released theirs, with the duo all smiles for the festive season.
This year the royal couple celebrated ten years of marriage.
It was the wedding that changed history. Finally a royal – and not just any royal, the Heir Apparent – married a divorcee.
Prince Charles’ great uncle, King Edward VIII was forced to give up the throne for the woman he loved, divorcee Mrs Simpson. And his aunt Princess Margaret had to give up her love for divorced Group Captain Peter Townsend to stay in line with royal protocol. So it was quite a step for Prince Charles to stand his ground and marry the woman he had first fallen in love with more than 30 years before.
The civil ceremony in Windsor Guildhall was small and intimate but more than 20,000 gathered outside to cheer the happy couple. A blessing in St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle by the Archbishop of Canterbury and a reception hosted by The Queen and Prince Philip followed with 800 guests including political leaders and celebrities from Joanna Lumley to Rowan Atkinson.
Princes William and Harry decorated the Bentley which drove the couple away from Windsor Castle to their honeymoon in Scotland. The words “Prince” and “Duchess” were sprayed on either side of the windscreen and “Just Married” written on the back.
Watching the couple together there’s no question they have a special relationship and laugh all the time. Prince Charles introduced Camilla to Australia in 2012 and afterwards told The Weekly “I was thrilled for Australians to discover just how special she is… because she’s got the most wonderful sense of humour.”
