Like her husband Harry, Meghan has wanted children for years, describing starting a family as a โ€œdream.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s all about balance, and I have so much happiness in my career and am fortunate to travel the world and see so many amazing things โ€“ it will also be nice to be anchored to something grounded and in the same place,โ€ she has said.

โ€œRaising a family will be a wonderful part of that.โ€

As Meghan is extremely close to her own mum, Doria Ragland, itโ€™s clear sheโ€™ll be a hands-on mother as well as a progressive one.

During her pregnancy, she spoke about feeling โ€œthe embryonic kick of feminism.โ€

And she credits her mother with teaching her the importance of giving back โ€“ something she will pass on to her own kids.

โ€œThis is what I grew up seeing, so that is what I grew up being: a young adult with a social consciousness to do what I could,โ€ she wrote on her now defunct website The Tig.

And with her newborn son Archie, Meghan plans to start as she means to go on.

โ€œShe wants to lead by example and make sure everyone sees her as a woman paving her own way in the world and not relying on her husband,โ€ an insider tells Womanโ€™s Day.

โ€œMeghanโ€™s a feminist to the core and will show her son as he grows up that his mother and father are very much equals.โ€

And that includes on the work front. The new mum is reportedly only taking three monthsโ€™ maternity leave, compared with sister-in-law Kateโ€™s six after she had Prince Louis in 2018.

โ€œMeghan has made it very clear she wants to return to work as soon as possible. She has huge amounts of energyโ€ฆ and wants to be as hands-on as possible with her charities,โ€ a source says.

โ€œSheโ€™ll most likely return to public life in six weeks โ€“ on the Queenโ€™s official birthday, Trooping the Colour, in June.โ€
