She is about to release a tell-all biography with husband Prince Harry about the coupleโ€™s controversial exit from the royal family, but now itโ€™s been revealed that Meghan Markle was keeping a secret diary during her time as a senior member of The Firm.

That has led to speculation that the Sussex familyโ€™s upcoming book could include some intimate first-hand details of exactly what went on behind the scenes during the coupleโ€™s bitter falling out with the Windsors.

Daily Mail columnist Sebastian Shakespeare says a friend of Meghanโ€™s told him the former Suits actress kept a diary throughout her time as a royal.

โ€œI can disclose that, according to one of the Duchessโ€™s friends, Meghan โ€” guest-editor of British Vogue in 2018 โ€” kept a diary during her time in the UK,โ€ he wrote.

โ€œSuch a journal could form the basis of a definitive, first-person chronicle of her extraordinary journey from aspiring American actress to member of Britainโ€™s Royal Family.โ€

Renowned royal biographer Andrew Morton, the author of Princess Dianaโ€™s controversial book Diana: Her True Story, endorsed Meghanโ€™s previous writing experience.

โ€œShe is a good writer, with a nice turn of phrase,โ€ he told the Daily Mail.

Morton also suggested that a first person account from Meghan of her time with the royal family would be a huge win for the Duchessโ€™s upcoming book release.

โ€œShe would have total control,โ€ he said.

As well as her British Vogue guest editor gig, Meghanโ€™s previous writing background includes her lifestyle blog The Tig and another not defunct blog, The Working Actress, which she wrote anonymously.

โ€œMy hair is primped, my face is painted, my name is recognised, my star meter is rising, my life is changing,โ€ she once wrote.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that a new authorised biography on Harry and Meghan will be released later this year, in August.

Penned by two renowned โ€œfriendlyโ€ royal correspondents, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, who were given โ€œunique accessโ€ to the couple during an interview before they relocated to America, the book is set to shed light on exactly what went on behind the scenes during the Sussexโ€™s split from the royal family.

Titled, Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan, and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, and according to its blurb on Amazon.com, the book will go โ€œbeyond the headlines to reveal unknown details of Harry and Meghanโ€™s life together, dispelling the many rumours and misconceptions that plague the couple on both sides of the pond.โ€

The synopsis also adds: โ€œWhile the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have continued to make headlines โ€” from their engagement, wedding, and birth of their son Archie to their unprecedented decision to step back from their royal lives โ€” few know the true story of Harry and Meghan.

โ€œWith unique access and written with the participation of those closest to the couple, Finding Freedom is an honest, up-close, and disarming portrait of a confident, influential, and forward-thinking couple who are unafraid to break with tradition, determined to create a new path away from the spotlight, and dedicated to building a humanitarian legacy that will make a profound difference in the world.โ€

While itโ€™s unclear exactly how much insight the Duke and Duchess will offer fans about their experience, a friend of Meghanโ€™s told Vanity Fair that she wouldnโ€™t be publishing a โ€œkiss and tellโ€.

โ€œThe Meghan stories seem to get more far-fetched by the day,โ€ the royal insider said.

โ€œI wasnโ€™t aware that Meghan kept a diary, but even if she was chronicling that period, she is not going to be publishing a kiss-and-tell. That isnโ€™t on the agenda for her or Harry.โ€
