Yes, like many royals before them, these two aren’t picking names willy nilly. The pair have very carefully chosen the perfect name for their little girl, who arrived on Friday.

A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan confirmed on Sunday, saying: “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.

“Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA.

What does Harry & Meghan’s baby daughter’s name Lilibet Diana mean?

As confirmed in the statement, Lilibet derives from her great-grandmother, the Queen’s family nickname. It’s well known that the late Prince Philip in particular called his wife the beloved name through the years.

Of course, Diana is the name belonging to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

“This is the second child for the couple, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family,” the spokesperson continued.

This of course isn’t the first time the pair have chosen a name with a special meaning behind it.

Their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is also cut from the same cloth from this perspective.

Archie means ‘genuine’, ‘bold’ or ‘brave’, and is related to the Greek word Archewell, which means ‘source of action’.

As you’ll probably be aware, it was the inspiration behind the Duke and Duchess’ self-owned foundation, Archewell.

Harrison is of course a lovely nod to Prince Harry, and derived from the term ‘son of Harry’. Very cute!

And like his younger sister, Archie’s surname Mountbatten-Windsor came about because of his UK heritage on both his great-grandmother the Queen and great-grandfather Prince Philip’s lines of lineage.

Harry and Meghan pay tribute to Harry’s royal family by choosing the surname Mountbatten-Windsor.
