When newlyweds Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped out to attend the wedding of the Duke of Sussex’s cousin Celia McCorquodale, the Duchess’s Oscar de la Renta purple and white floral dress divided opinion. The dress’s billowy bohemian silhouette had many royal watchers pondering the over-sided fit as an unusual choice for the fashionable royal.
However dressgate aside, it’s what was on Meghan’s feet that caught more positive attention. Following in the thrifty footsteps of her sister-in-law, Duchess Kate, the newly-minted royal rewore her wedding shoes to the Lincolnshire nuptials.
Meghan’s handcrafted satin shoes designed by Aquazzura were last worn by the royal to her nighttime wedding reception at Frogmore House. The heels feature chic cut-out detailing and a symbolic pale blue sole for luck.
Proving she’s not all high-fashion-fancy, Meghan teamed her designer gown with a budget-friendly fascinator by British high-street brand Marks & Spencer, which retails for $53.
Perhaps Meghan has taken style-inspiration from Duchess Catherine who is often praised for mixing high-low fashion and rewearing outfit faves to events.
As for that divisive dress, some suggest Meghan also took some inspiration from one particular royal, Princess Diana.
An Instagram fan account @loveprincessdiana, pointed out the similarities between Meghan’s Oscar de la Renta dress and a print tunic by Catherine Walker worn by Princess Diana during a visit to Saudi Arabia in 1986.
