The British Fashion Awards took place on Monday and whilst there were many celebrity guests in attendance, from Cindy Crawford to the Beckhams, there was one who truly stole the show.
Duchess Meghan Markle surprised everyone when she attended the award ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall to present the British Womenswear Designer of the Year award to Claire Waight Keller of Givenchy, who coincidentally designed her wedding dress.
And all eyes were on the Duchess of Sussex’s growing baby bump which she lovingly cradled as she stood on stage, dressed in a one shoulder black gown, most likely by the design house.
As Duchess Meghan took to the stage, she was greeted by a roar of applause from the audience.
“It is such a pleasure to be here celebrating British fashion and British fashion designers in my new home in the UK,” the former actress said by way of welcome.
She went on to say, “As all of you in this room know, we have a deep connection to what we wear, sometimes it’s very personal sometimes it’s negotiable but for me this connection is rooted in really being able to understand that it’s about supporting and empowering each other, especially as women.”
“When we choose to wear a certain designer we’re not just a reflection of their creativity and their vision but we’re also an extension of their values, of something in the fabric, so to speak, of something that is much more meaningful.”

Taking to the stage, Givenchy designer Claire greeted the Duchess, whom she only met 11 months ago in the lead up to the royal wedding, with a warm embrace.
“This woman is so amazing. I got to know Meghan on such a personal level. To have someone like that trust you on such a personal moment in their life… I can’t thank you enough because it was the most beautiful moment,” the designer gushed.
Shortly afterwards, the British Fashion Council shared a stylish black and white video of Meghan cradling her bump alongside winning designer Claire and actress Rosamund Pike who introduced the Duchess.
And it’s safe to say the former actress has a few admirers.
One fan commented, “Meghan Markle is so beautiful with her baby bump at the British #FashionAwards. I love everything that the Duchess of Sussex wears. This gown is amazing. Meghan is glowing!”
“Wow😍😍what a wonderful babyglow in Meghans eyes [sic],” another shared.
Meghan, who previously stated that she loves French, classic style famously wore Claire’s stunning design at her royal wedding to Prince Harry.
“Ms. Waight Keller designed a veil representing the distinctive flora of all 53 Commonwealth countries united in one spectacular floral composition,” the palace explained after the royal wedding.
“The Duchess and Ms. Waight Keller worked closely together on the design, epitomising a timeless minimal elegance referencing the codes of the iconic House of Givenchy.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Duchess Meghan’s baby bump on show.
Stepping out for a charity Christmas carol service last week with husband Prince Harry, the 37-year-old royal sent the world into meltdown when her royal bump was spotted in a midnight blue ensemble.
The mum-to-be has also been cradling her tummy at numerous royal events, most recently on an engagement at the Hubb Community Kitchen.
According to Kensington Palace, Harry and Meghan’s baby is due in the British Springtime which means Baby Sussex could arrive any time between March and May 2019. But judging by the size of her bump, could Duchess Meghan’s due date be sooner than we think?
Eagle-eyed royal watchers think the royal baby will arrive in April putting Meghan at five months pregnant after the Duchess of Sussex was spotted sporting a ring that featured a green peridot (Meghan’s birthstone), a blue sapphire (Harry’s birthstone) and a diamond, the birthstone associated with those born in April.
HELLO!‘s royal editor Emily Nash only fuelled this speculation when she explained, “By my calculations, the baby is due in late April.”
