Back in February, the world watched with eager eyes as Meghan Markle flew to New York for a whirlwind trip to celebrate her baby shower.
And while the event itself would no doubt have been an extravagant one for the soon-to-be royal mum, the specific details around it were kept very hush-hush.
Not that that stopped people from claiming they knew exactly what happened, it seems.
In a statement from Meghan’s lawyers, who have filed new court papers as part of the legal action currently being taken by the Duke and Duchess against several British newspapers, new details have emerged about the event.
According to HELLO!, the papers addressed “untrue” claims from press that Meghan had deliberately left her mother out from the baby shower, and instead “ditched” her for her famous friends.
Setting things straight, the statement read: [This is] untrue and offensive to her.”
“The Claimant’s mother was of course invited, and the Claimant also offered to buy her airline tickets. However, her mother was unable to attend due to work commitments.”

(Getty)The statement also cleared up the alleged cost of the baby shower, previously reported by newspapers as $300k.
Meghan’s lawyers said it “actually cost a tiny fraction of the $300k falsely stated in the article”.
The shower, according to Meghan’s lawyers, was also hosted by one of Meghan’s best friends from university, and included 15 guests – some of which had been friends with the Duchess for more than 20 years.

The invite list was also clad with A-listers including Serena Williams and Amal Clooney.
According to HELLO!‘s report, guests took part in a flower arranging session, the products of which were donated to paediatric cancer patients from the Ronald McDonald House Charities of New York.

The new information comes following Harry and Meghan’s announcement that they would be filing a lawsuit against a British tabloid, alleging that it unlawfully published one of Meghan’s private letters.
At the time, Harry issued a rare statement, writing: “My wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences – a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son.”

“My deepest fear is history repeating itself. I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person,” he wrote.
“I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”
