How the royal family spend this New Year’s Eve – and it won’t be together

Royal watchers, don’t expect to be seeing any royal family photos popping up from New Year’s Eve celebrations because there are no real regal traditions around this day of the year.

It has been revealed that they key royal family members, including the Queen, Prince William and Duchess Kate and Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, will going their separate ways this New Year’s Eve.

Here’s what it’s expected they will be up to:

William and Kate

Prince Harry Kate Middleton family

The family of five is expected to ring in 2019 at the Middleton family estate.

At their first New Year’s Eve as parents of three, the young family are expected to join Kate’s parents, Carol and Michael Middleton, at their home for New Year’s Eve.

Their children Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, 8 months, will also being staying over at Grand and Grandpa Middleton’s Berkshire estate.

Kate’s sister, Pippa, who became a first-time mum two months ago, is also expected to be at the Middletons’ Berkshire estate with her husband James and newborn Arthur.

The Middletons are renowned for their end-of-year parties, usually hosting more than 100 guests and featuring a marquee and dance floor. But with so many grandchildren, it might be a more low-key evening for the extended family.

Harry and Meghan

It’s expected to be a quiet NYE for the newlyweds, with pregnant Meghan in her second trimester. It’s believed the couple will ring in the New Year in Sandringham in a mostly alcohol-free celebration.

It’s a very different story to last year when the pair flew to Monaco to celebrate the start of what would become an epic year for them.

The Queen and Prince Philip

Ever a traditionalist, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be staying in Sandringham, Norfolk, for New Year celebrations.

According to royal experts, there is an open invitation to other members of the family who are also encouraged to attend the annual New Year’s Day service at St Mary Magdalene Church.

The heir to the British throne is expected to be in full kilt for New Year’s Eve with royal commentators reporting that Charles and Camilla will likely ring in 2019 in the Scottish Highlands.

Prince Charles owns Birkhall on the Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire which is where he and Camilla spent their honeymoon, and it’s a favourite spot for the couple.
