The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were all smiles as they introduced their little princess to the world.

The pair emerged from the Lindo Wing just after 6pm local time yesterday.

Kate was wearing a beautiful yellow dress by Jenny Packham and looked stunning as always, despite having been admitted to hospital just 12 hours earlier.

The Duke and Duchess happily smiled and waved to fans, but did not speak to the media.

Earlier when Prince William left the hospital to collect Prince George he told reporters he was “very happy.”

The Princess was born at 8.34am local time in St Mary’s hospital. She is the first princess born into royal succession in 25 years.

London has erupted into celebrations, with fans lining the streets outside the Lindo Wing, holding signs and waving flags. Major landmarks including the London Tower were turned pink in honour of the occasion.

Messages of congratulations have flooded social media in the hours since the birth.

Prince William’s father, Prince Charles and wife Camilla sent a message they were “absolutely delighted” by the news.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott shared his delight on social media: “On behalf of all Australians, Margie and I extend to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge congratulations on the birth of a daughter,” he wrote on Twitter.

The Prime Minister also told reporters on Sunday it was “a great day for Australians.”

“It’s a moment of great joy for any family to welcome a new child. This is a joyous day for the royal family,” Abbott said.

“It’s also a great day for Australians because every member of the royal family has a respect, affection and enthusiasm for Australia.”

Meanwhile, Prince Harry was spotted at a football game in Perth.

The Princess is fourth in line to the throne after her grandfather Charles, her father, William and older brother, George.

It is expected the Royal family will retire to their country estate, Anmer Hall, for the remainder of Kate’s maternity leave.

The #GreatKateWait isn’t completely over – now we are waiting for a name.

Just hours after a safe delivery Kate and Wills happily smiled for camera’s and fans outside the Lindo Wing.

Fans and media gathered outside the hospital to catch a glimpse of the Royal Baby.

The family emerged briefly from the hospital to pose for photos before thanking the staff and leaving.

Prince William told the crowd he was “very happy” as he ducked off to pick up Prince George.
