Maud Windsor, the first child of Lord Frederick Windsor and his actress wife Sophie Winkleman, was introduced to the world on the cover of Hello! magazine overnight.

Wearing a simple white lace dress, Maud cuddles her mother Sophie as proud father Freddie and his parents Prince and Princess Michael of Kent look on.

The shoot took place in the couple’s Hollywood home, where Prince and Princess Michael of Kent are on a week-long holiday to spend time with their first grandchild.

In the accompanying interview, Freddie explains why they chose the name Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina for their newborn.

“We liked the idea of an old-fashioned English name and there are a couple of Princess Mauds in my father’s family from a hundred years ago,” Freddie told the publication.

“It’s also a beautiful, elegant name and it was always our first choice. Elizabeth is a tribute to the Queen, Daphne is Sophie’s grandmother, who she was very close to and Marina is my paternal grandmother.”

Prince Michael, who is the Queen’s cousin, said he and his wife are “besotted” with the baby.

“We are absolutely thrilled by the arrival of our beautiful first grand-daughter, Maud,” he said. “We are both besotted with her. Not only does she have the prettiest blue eyes and adorable tiny feet, but she is also remarkably well-behaved.”

Sophie also spoke about her plans to introduce Maud to William and Kate’s new son Prince George, who is her third cousin once removed.

“Perhaps we’ll introduce the babies at Buckingham Palace for the Christmas lunch, that would be very sweet,” she said.

Maud is 42nd in line to the British throne, while George is third.

Freddie and Sophie, an actress who appeared on sitcom Two and a Half Men, married in a lavish ceremony at Hampton Court Palace in 2009.
