The royal family has been hit by its second significant divorce within a week

The royal family has been hit by another divorce this week, this time on Princess Margaret’s side of the family – her son, the Earl of Snowdon, has separated from his wife Serena.

The news was first reported early on Tuesday morning, with a spokesperson for the couple confirming: “The Earl and Countess of Snowdon have amicably agreed that their marriage has come to an end and that they shall be divorced.”

The pair had been married for 25 years, with the Earl, also known as David Armstrong-Jones, best known for his furniture business Linley.

David is the son of Margaret and her first husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones, who passed away in 1997.

After marrying Serena, known as the Countess of Snowdon, in 1993, the pair shared two children together – Viscount Linley, Charles Armstrong-Jones and Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones.

The pair were married for 25 years.

The news comes just a week after the Queen’s grandson Peter Phillips announced his split with wife Autumn.

A spokesperson confirmed to Australian Women’s Weekly that the pair had “reached the conclusion that this was the best course of action for their two children and ongoing friendship.”

The decision to divorce and share custody came about after many months of discussions and although sad, is an amicable one,” a formal statement read.

The pair share two young daughters, Savannah, nine, and Isla, seven.

Earlier this month, the Queen’s grandson, Peter Phillips’ split with his wife Autumn.

At the time of the announcement, a report from The Sun claimed the decision had “upset” the Queen.

A source told the publication that Autumn was close with the family, and that she was a “favourite of the Queen and I’m sure Her Majesty will be very upset by this as well.”
