King Charles is so desperate to smooth things over with Prince Harry that it may come at the cost of his relationship with his elder son.

Prince William is understood to be feeling “betrayed” by ongoing talks from his 74-year-old father’s court over how to make sure Harry and his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, attend the coronation, amid fears the fractured family dynamic could overshadow Charles’ rule.

“There’s a lot of chatter about how bad the optics could be if Harry and Meghan don’t come, but no one’s stopped to think about how William feels to have to share a bench at Westminster with the two very people who have caused so much pain to his family,” says our source.

“William, along with his wife and even his kids, were the ones most damaged by Harry’s book and interviews, not Charles. William can’t understand why his father would so willingly subject him and Catherine to coming face to face with the Sussexes in front of the watching world.”

Last week, Daily Mail journalist Dan Wootton revealed that Wills, 40, is still “catatonic” with rage over Harry’s string of allegations made against him in his memoir Spare, including that he assaulted him and that Kate, 41, was an ice queen towards Meghan, also 41.

THE BITTER END

Harry, 38, also made thinly veiled suggestions that William and Kate’s team were actively leaking stories about him and Meghan to the British press.

“According to my royal sources, the Prince of Wales still cannot fathom the vicious intent behind his brother’s book, which he believes marks the end of their relationship forever,” says Dan.

“Sure, time heals all wounds, but at this moment, courtiers believe William is adamant he will never speak to his sibling again.

“This is the tinderbox environment in which the new King expects his sons to reunite in front of an audience of billions while watching him crowned.”

Woman’s Day’s insider says William “has never been more on edge” than he is now – nor has he ever held back from telling his dad how he really feels.

“After weeks of soul-searching, William is prepared to lay it out for Charles – if Harry’s going to be at the coronation, he would prefer not to be.”

Dan adds, “The coronation is Charles’ day, I understand that. But he’s determined to have the Sussexes in attendance. In my opinion [that is] an unwise decision driven by heart over head that will overshadow the historic event. It’s now up to the King to protect his eldest son.”
