Who are the international royal families attending King Charles’ coronation?

With King Charles’ coronation less than four weeks away, we can’t wait to see what famous faces will be in the crowd.

Throughout the planning process, the new King has been breaking with tradition, with one exciting new feature being the invitation of international reigning monarchs to the coronation.

Prince Albert of Monaco and Princess Charlene were one of the first foreign royals to accept their coronation invitation, with the couple confirming their attendance in an interview earlier this year.

Australian-born Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark have also confirmed their attendance in a statement released by The Royal House.

Queen Margrethe of Denmark was also invited however, due to a recent back surgery, she will not be present to witness of the son of her third cousin, Queen Elizabeth II, be crowned.

The new King’s distant cousin, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, will also be attending the proceedings accompanied by his daughter, Crown Princess Victoria.

Outside of Europe, the new King has also invited royal leaders from across the Pacific Islands, Asia, and the Middle East to attend the festivities.

Kyodo News announced yesterday that Japan’s Cabinet have granted approval for Emperor Naruhito of Japan’s younger brother, Crown Prince Fumihito, and his wife, Crown Princess Kiko, to attend their first foreign coronation.

Although they have yet to officially confirm their attendance, it is anticipated that the Crown Prince of Bahrain, Crown Prince of Kuwait, King Tupou VI of Tonga, and His Majesty the Yang di Pertuan Agong of Malaysia will each be present at the coronation due to their attendance at Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral last year.

It is anticipated that royal representatives from across the Pacific Islands, Asia, and the Middle East will attend the coronation, based on their prior attendance at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

Alongside the numerous international royal families, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will also be in attendance, accompanied by Governor-General David Hurley.

The Prime Minister has also announced his hand-picked group of ‘outstanding citizens’ that will represent Australia alongside the official party, with Mr Albanese informing Parliament of the notable request by Buckingham Palace to ensure that First Nations people are significantly represented amongst the Australian cohort.

As the momentous occasion of King Charles’ official crowning draws near, all signs suggest that his coronation is set to be one of the most unique and memorable in British history.
