We already knew that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were keen to embrace the power of social media when they announced the birth of their daughter, Princess Charlotte on Twitter earlier this year. Now it seems messages from the palace via the little blue will be the new normal.
With a growing online presence Duchess Catherine, née Kate Middleton and her husband, Prince William chose to use Instagram to post a special tribute to mark the second birthday of their son, Prince George.
“Hard to believe it has already been two years! Thanks for all your lovely birthday wishes, and warm welcome to all of our new followers. #HappyBirthdayPrinceGeorge” wrote the @kensingtonroyal account underneath a picture of Kate and William first presenting George to the world on the day of his birth outside the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington on July 21 in 2013.
After less than half an hour the post had already attracted more than 10 thousand likes.
The @kensingtonroyal account describes itself as a platform delivering “Photos and videos direct from Kensington Palace about the work and activities of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry” so one can only assume Kate or William had a hand in creating the post.
Yesterday the royal’s 615, 000 followers were treated to a brand new Mario Testino portrait of a Prince George being held by his dad.
The shot of the boisterous looking tot was captioned: “Look who’s turning two tomorrow #HappyBirthdayPrinceGeorge”
So hashtags? Shout outs to new followers? We can’t wait until we are treated to some royal selfies!
Proving that they are keeping up with the times Kensington Palace takes to Instagram and starts a new hashtag to wish Prince George a happy birthday.
Happy Birthday, cheeky boy! This was the image the palace shared ahead of Prince George’s birthday.
Prince George will celebrate his second birthday on July 21.
A good big brother: Here is Prince George with his sister, Princess Charlotte when she was just five weeks old.
The Duchess of Cambridge – who is an amature photographer – took these intimate snaps of her two beautiful children.
George is wearing Amaia Kids Blue France knee high socks with a Rachel Riley cotton shirt and baby blue shorts. Both are available as sets which sell for approximately $150 each.
So cute!
The first time we glimpsed tiny Prince George in his parents arms, he was already mastering the royal wave.
New mum, Kate, looked besotted with her husband and new son.
After the birth came Prince George’s first official portraits (complete with family dog Lupo!)
George didn’t look too impressed at his christening.
Before long he was crawling!
And walking!
A picture perfect family.
Made even more perfect by the addition of Princess Charlotte earlier this year.
Happy birthday to our little Prince George!
