Our favourite British royal didn’t always have Kensington Palace chefs at her beck and call.
According to staff at The Weekly’s sister site Recipes Plus – who are shamelessly obsessed with the duchess – these are the humble eateries you would find Kate Middleton at before she became the Duchess of Cambridge.
Bluebird
Kate’s rumoured favourite restaurant Bluebird is the not-so-hidden gem of Chelsea.
One of the most popular eateries in London, Bluebird boasts a charming courtyard and triples as a modern cafe, bar and restaurant.
We are personally a fan of the lovely baked breads and treats Bluebird offers—the perfect pairing for a morning cup of tea or coffee.
Kate has been spotted here lunching with her sisters Pippa and mother Carole Middleton and sharing romantic dinners with her prince.
Koffmann’s
The classic British ambiance of Koffmann’s makes this the perfect setting to enjoy tea and biscuits with finesse.
Located inside the Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, this is the legendary eatery where Kate Middleton reportedly received bride-to-be advice from none other than her stepmother-in-law Camilla Parker Bowles.
Only days before the royal wedding, Kate and Camilla (a rumoured regular of Koffmann’s) were joined by Camilla’s daughter and Pippa. Imagine the wedding details that were discussed—maybe it was Camilla who had the final say in Pippa’s bottom-hugging Alexander McQueen gown. We will just never know.
Dans Le Noir
Between her sporting days of rowing and her undeniable outdoorsy side, we already know that the Duchess of Cambridge has a sense of adventure. Even before becoming a part of the monarchy Kate Middleton couldn’t resist a thrill, and that doesn’t exclude dining experiences.
Dans Le Noir is one of London’s most unique dining experiences as diners are served in complete sensory-consuming darkness.
Guests are served by blind folds by waiters and waitresses giving a hauntingly authentic “look” into their world.
It has only been rumoured that Kate and Prince William enjoyed unorthodox romantic meals in this London thrill. We’ll definitely be adding this one to our London restaurant bucket list.
Tom’s Kitchen
As a true testament to Kate and William being a modern couple (despite being the most famous pair in the world) they are known to enjoy casual eating spots like Tom’s Kitchen from time to time.
With a relaxed, home-like atmosphere and delicious comfort food, we can see why the royals found taste here.
We imagine it to be a sweet escape to be surrounded by London locals in this energy-filled and laidback setting rather than the confinements of a palace. It probably isn’t a bad deal either to momentarily escape the temper and screams of Prince George; according to William, he has quite the pair of lungs.
Riccardo’s
If you don’t think being a royal is a powerful roll, then you haven’t heard of restaurant PR. Kate Middleton happens to be the world’s leading expert.
Popularly coined “the Kate Middleton effect”, every place she visits and every thread she wears is made famous. Riccardo’s Restaurant is no different.
Located in Chelsea, Riccardo’s offers Londoners and tourists “a taste of Tuscany” in the middle of endlessly rainy and grey-skied London. Kate was photographed enjoying some Italian grub weeks ahead of the Royal Wedding.
I guess Italian was the secret to fitting into that iconic wedding gown so flawlessly.
