Duchess Catherine has attended a national event with a special personal significance for Her Royal Highness.
Taking a solo tour of Bletchley Park – a collection of huts and blocks that housed code breakers during WWII – Kate visited the building where her own grandmother was based during wartime.
Working as a Duty Officer within a code-breaking unit that deciphered German army and air force messages, Valerie Glassborow, Kate’s paternal grandmother, was a civilian member of staff.
The Duchess of Cambridge was able to learn about her grandmother’s wartime experience from Glassborow’s code-breaker colleague, Lady Marion Body who worked with her and recalled being at work with Valerie when they heard that the war in Europe had ended.
The visit marked the completion of a year-long restoration project which has seen the buildings returned to their WWII appearance.
