The Prince and Princess of Wales have made their first appearance since the official period of mourning for the Queen ended, heading to Wales where Catherine shared a cute update on Princess Charlotte.

Prince William was taking his new royal as heir apparent very seriously, but wife Catherine couldn’t keep herself away from the youngest royal fans gathered to meet them.

She made a little boy named Theo Crompton blush when he presented her with flowers outside the RNLI lifeboat station in Holyhead, crouching down to tell him how smart he looked in his tie.

“Are your friends here? Where’s mummy?” she asked Theo, who pointed behind him to where his family were gathered as Catherine treated them to a wave.

But it was a little girl at St Thomas Church in Swansea who stole the show – and the princess’ attention – in a darling costume and bonnet.

Catherine was delighted when she heard the girl’s name was Charlotte, the same as her own daughter. She told her: “I have a Charlotte too, she’s got plaits today.”

The comment suggested Catherine may have even been the one to plait her daughter’s hair that morning.

Princess Charlotte was likely at school in Windsor, where she and her two brothers Prince George and Prince Louis recently started at Lambrook School.

The mum-of-three then helped little Charlotte Bunton arrange gifts for babies, even pausing her conversations with staff and volunteers to dote on the toddler.

When it was time for her and William to leave the church, Catherine even crouched down for one last hug before Charlotte ran back to her own mother.

Royal fans around the world have noted how much Catherine embodied her late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s legacy at the outing, which is one of her first official engagements as the Princess of Wales.

Diana was known for her way with children and was fondly known as the ‘People’s Princess’, a moniker social media users say Catherine may too inherit one day.

“William chose so well, Catherine really is just like Diana and a true credit to the title Princess of Wales,” one Instagram user wrote.

Another added: “I love seeing Princess Catherine of Wales interacting with the little ones. She has a kind heart.”

Catherine also honoured Diana through fashion as she visited Wales, donning a red LK Bennett coat aptly named the ‘Spencer’ coat. Diana’s maiden name was Spencer.

It’s the first time Catherine has been seen out of mourning clothes, following the Queen’s death on September 8.

Though she chose a vibrant red coat, the princess kept the rest of her outfit black as the royal family continue to pay subtle respects to the late monarch.
