An elderly woman knocked over in a police convoy travelling with Prince William and Kate Middleton earlier this week is in a critical condition in hospital, reports have revealed.
The woman, who is understood to be 83 years-old, was knocked down by a police motorbike which was part of a convoy escorting William and Kate to the Order of the Garter service held in London on Monday, according to reports.
The Sun reports that the bike was clearing traffic when it hit Irene Mayor in East Sheen, which is located in West London – according to witnesses.
Understandably, the news has come as a big shock to William and Kate, who were reportedly “devastated” when they heard of the crash.
The pair sent flowers to the elderly woman in hospital, and The Sun reports they hope to visit her in hospital to apologise.
The publication claims the woman was thrown into the air by the impact of the collision, leaving her to land awkwardly.
She was taken by air ambulance to hospital and is currently in a critical, but stable condition.
The victim’s daughter Fiona told The Sun that her mother had “lots of injuries” but that the hospital were “just keeping her stable at the moment”.
It is understood a member of Kate and William‘s staff visited Fiona on Tuesday after the crash.
William and Kate, who are no strangers to an elaborate police convoy everywhere they go, were believed to be inside a Range Rover which was accompanied by at least four motorcycles and two additional cars at the time of the crash.
The pair were travelling to Windsor for a special Order of the Garter Service held by the Queen.
Also in attendance at the daytime event were other international royal dignitaries, including Queen Maxima of the Netherlands and Queen Letizia of Spain, who accompanied their husbands to the event.

While no official statement has yet been released by the Palace, we can only imagine how much of a shock the accident has come to her family and the royals.
We’re hoping for a fast recovery for her!
