For now, the Duchess of Cambridge insists to her friends that she’s mum-of-three first, and future queen second.
And an adorable new photo of her eldest boy proves just why the 40-year-old prefers jeans and sports pitches to tiaras and state banquets.
An eagle-eyed fan spotted Prince George, eight, playing soccer for his school’s team recently, prompting insiders to tell Woman’s Day that taking her kids to their chosen sports is Kate’s favourite pastime.
“Kate is a regular on the sidelines at George’s football matches, often with William by her side,” says a source.
“They are just like any proud parents cheering their kids on.”
Indeed, royal reporter Katie Nicholl told Vanity Fair last year that “George is football crazy and actually a very good player”.
According to our insider, “George and Wills love watching football together, it’s very cute. Kate tells friends they’d be in front of the telly for hours if she’d let them.
“Kate is a pretty handy sportswoman herself after years of hockey and athletics, so she can often be found larking around outside with him, too.
“He’s also endlessly kicking the ball in the garden and pretending he’s [England captain] Harry Kane.
“Kate is a huge advocate for parents getting involved with their kids’ sports, and she and Wills like to lead by example.”
The Middleton family could also be hearing the pitter-patter of another set of little feet in the not-too-distant future.
According to a UK newspaper report, Kate’s brother James Middleton, 34, and his French wife Alizee Thevenet, 32, are hoping that 2022 is the year they start a family.
“He’s told Kate of their plans, and the duchess couldn’t be more thrilled at the prospect of becoming an aunty again,” says an insider.
“She knows how much her brother has struggled with health issues and depression, and she hopes this could be a happy time for him.”
