On New Year’s Eve, aka Sunday, Dec. 31, the official Kensington Palace Instagram account posted a series of cute videos chronicling the royal family’s impressive 2017.
First, they highlighted Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Prince Harry’s UK engagements throughout the year. Highlights of overseas tours were then shown followed by highlights of the trio’s royal foundation work.
Lastly came a video showing off the crew’s most memorable “family moments” of 2017 that included Princess Charlotte receiving her first posey, Prince George starting school, George and Charlotte appearing in Pippa Middleton’s wedding, and Harry’s engagement to Meghan Markle.
But, one major royal family event was noticeably (and shockingly) left out of the highlight reel — the worldwide announcement of Kate and William’s third pregnancy!
Not surprisingly, fans were quick to criticize the Kensington Palace social media team for leaving out such an important and exciting 2017 event.
“What about the announcement of the Duke and Duchess expecting [their] third baby?!” one person protested with another similarly adding, “Duchess of Cambridge announces [third] pregnancy?!?!”
One person also astutely pointed out that another big royal event was missing from the video — Prince Philip’s retirement!
“Prince Philip… a long-serving member of the royal family announces retirement?!?” the fan wrote. Queen Elizabeth’s husband, 96, officially finished his royal duties in August 2017 after 65 years of service and more than 22,000 solo engagements. Though Kate’s pregnancy, which she and William announced in early September 2017, and Philip’s retirement were excluded from the clip, other fans of the monarchy defended the video.
“No complaints, people! What a charming thing they are doing by sharing with us! Let’s always just be thankful, ok?” one person wrote with another adding, “Thanks for sharing! I’ve enjoyed each of these milestones.”
In mid-October, Kate and William, both 35, officially revealed their third baby’s due date is in April 2018.
Following the exciting news, a source close to the mom-of-two said Kate is reportedly “feeling great” after suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum early in her pregnancy.
“[She is] enjoying her later months of pregnancy… It’s amazing what a difference the later trimesters feel like compared to the early days, which she really struggled with more than ever this time,” a source told Us Weekly.
We can’t wait to meet the royal family’s new bundle of joy next spring!
