Princess Eugenie’s fiancé Jack Brooksbank has been given quite the dressing down by his grandmother, and it’s left us feeling more than a little awkward.
Joanna Newton, 91, described the nightclub manager and former barman as a “charming boy” and a “good egg” but “not the most intelligent.”
“I never thought he would get married to a royal,” she told the MailOnline. “He’s a charming boy and all that but not the most intelligent and I would never have thought this would happen.”
She added: “I think it says a lot about Eugenie that it’s him she wants and it’s lovely.”
The matriarch later revealed that her grandson, 31, and his 27-year-old fiancée had hoped to tie the knot in September but were now looking at October as their wedding month.
In a separate interview, a royal source claimed their delayed wedding could be due to the royal family’s busy schedule. For one, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are already earmarked to travel to Sydney in September for the prince’s Invictus Games.
“Eugenie and Jack are keen to tie the knot quite quickly, and there certainly wouldn’t be any issue as regards the booking of the chapel given who her grandmother is,” the source told the MailOnline. “But the issue is that some members of the Royal Family already have commitments in the diary.”
The insider added: “There is nothing concrete yet, but it looks as if Eugenie and Jack will go for October instead. They are fine with it. I don’t think anything will overshadow how deliriously happy they are.”
The Duke and Duchess of York’s youngest daughter recently opened up on the magical moment her husband-to-be got down on bended knee during a holiday in Nicaragua in Central America.
In the couple’s first-ever joint TV interview conducted at Buckingham Palace, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank told The One Show’s Matt Baker it was an “incredible moment.”
“The lake was so beautiful, it was a special light and I even said ‘this is an incredible moment’ and then he popped the question, which was really surprising even though we had been together seven years. It was the perfect moment because we knew it was going to end up this way. I was over the moon, crying,” 27-year-old Eugenie, who looked resplendent in a recycled floral Erdem dress, explained.

The Princess also opened up about their fateful first encounter, with the pair agreeing it was “love at first sight” after they were introduced by a mutual friend on a skiing holiday to Verbier in 2010.
“This is Jack, we met when I was 20 and he was 24 and fell in love and we have the same passions and drive for life. It’s so nice that we get to share this moment with everyone and you get to meet Jack,” Princess Eugenie said.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are due to tie the knot at St George’s Chapel in Windsor in the UK autumn (September, October or November) – the same venue that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will wed on Saturday, May 19.
And the couple are wasting no time making plans!
“I’m not sure I’ll get a word in edgeways,” Jack joked.
To which his fiancee replied: “We’ll do it together. [Planning will start] tomorrow I assume.”
We can barely wait!
