Princess Charlene has shared an edgy new photo as she remains in South Africa, where she has spent months separated from her husband and children.
The Princess of Monaco took to Instagram on Sunday to post a black-and-white photo of herself pointing into the camera.
In the snap she is wearing dark, smudged eye makeup, a black tank top and a traditional beaded bodice over her neck and chest.
While her blonde locks were styled into a chic pixie cut.
She shared the powerful new image to promote conservation efforts in her home nation, urging her followers to support initiatives to end rhino poaching.
“Rhino Horn is Not Cool!” she captioned the photo, as well as an art piece that read: “rhino horn not cool.”
“Let’s unite under my #ChasingZero initiative and put an end to the atrocities that put our precious wildlife at risk.”
Princess Charlene has been in South Africa since at least May, when she travelled there from Monaco to join in rhino conservation efforts.
The Monegasque royal then fell ill and required surgery to treat a severe ear, nose and throat infection.
Her medical team warned that she wouldn’t be able to fly back home to her husband, Prince Albert II, and their two children Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, both six, until she recovered.
However, that is taking a lot longer than anyone could have anticipated.
Having already undergone one surgery to address the infection, Princess Charlene has now advised that she requires a second procedure.
“Initially I was supposed to be here for 10 to 12 days,” the 43-year-old told South Africa Radio 702 last week.
“It’s taking time to address this problem that I’m having… I cannot force healing, so I will be grounded in South Africa until the end of October.”
Though she said she “feels well”, the mum-of-two is missing her children as this is the longest she’s ever been separated from them.
Photos posted to her Instagram profile in July showed the royal keeping in touch via FaceTime calls.
But she has been unable to see her children face-to-face in months, and likely won’t reunite with them until the end of October.
While she’s stuck in South Africa, Charlene has been making the most of her time supporting local humanitarian and conservation initiatives.
