According to 7 News, the ten-year -old was in between the flags when he was swept away by dangerous currents during a family day out to the beach on Thursday.
Luckily quick-thinking lifeguard Nick Malcolm spotted the young Prince struggling at sea and paddled out to rescue him.
Although Nick won’t comment on the situation his supervisor Stuart Keay told 7 News his incredible initiative most likely saved the eldest child of Princess Mary and Prince Frederik’s life.
“We got him before it got too serious, but he wouldn’t have come back in,” Stuart Keay explained.
Even more remarkably, the team were completely oblivious to who they had just saved. “A lady came up and said ‘Do you know who that is?’ We didn’t have a clue,” Mr Keay confessed.
“He’s kept it pretty quiet, I’m sure we’ll give him plenty of stick now we know,” lifeguard Shane Pierce also revealed.
Clearly blown away by the lifeguard’s efforts, Nick Malcolm was personally thanked by Prince Frederik for saving his son’s life.
Following the rescue, a brave Christian has reportedly already returned to Mermaid Beach for another swim.
The Danish royals, including their four children Prince Christian, 10, Princess Isabella, eight, and Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, both four, have been enjoying an Aussie summer break. It’s their first time back to Mary’s motherland since 2011.
Just last week they were enjoying a low-key road trip around WA. They are expected to celebrate Christmas in Mary’s native Hobart with her family before heading back to Denmark.
