Amongst all the royal family drama lately, there has been little word from Norway’s royal palace. But it has now been confirmed that Princess Martha Louise has decided to step down from her duties.
A statement revealed the Princess had arrived at the decision after wanting to “differentiate more clearly between her own activities and her relationship to the Royal House of Norway.”

(Image: Getty)Her parents King Harald V and Queen Sonja thanked their only daughter for her previous 51 years as a senior working royal.
“The King and Queen wish to thank Princess Martha Louise for the important work she has carried out in her official capacity for several decades. She has performed her duties with warmth, care and deep commitment,” the statement read.
“In accordance with The King’s wishes, the Princess will keep her title. The Princess will continue to serve as chair of the board of Princess Martha Louise’s Fund.”
The decision means Princess Martha Louise will no longer carry out official royal duties for Norway’s royal family.

The news follows only a few months after the Princess and fiancé Shaman Durek Verrett revealed they had received “death threats and hate” after sharing the news of their engagement.
Shaman said some members of the public “don’t want to see a Black man in the royal family” as it had “never been done before.”
“We think there’s no racism because we don’t have it in our lives, we’re white,” Princess Martha Louise said in a video to the public.

However, the statement from the King and Queen of Norway revealed that when her daughter marries Sharman then he will become a part of the royal family.
“As did Erling Lorentzen, Johan Martin Ferner and Ari Behn. But in accordance with tradition he will not have a title or represent the Royal House of Norway,” it said.
“Princess Martha Louise and Durek Verrett will attend important family-related gatherings, such as birthday celebrations, as well as certain major sporting events that the Royal Family traditionally attends together.”
