Ever since fate helped him stumble across Tasmanian beauty, Mary Donaldson, Australia has adopted Prince Frederik as our own.

The real-estate-agent-turned-royal tied the knot with the charming Prince on the 14th May 2004, and now over 11 years later the married couple are living their happily after.

The pair have since welcomed four children together — Prince Christian, Princess Isabella and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine — yet they look every bit as in love as when they first laid eyes on one another at the Sydney Slip Inn bar, all those years ago.

It feels like only yesterday when the Danish prince saw his wife at the altar and proclaimed, “From today, Mary is mine and I am hers. I love her and I will protect her with all my love.”

For such a fine prince, we think it is only fitting to look back at some of his most memorable moments in celebration of his 47th birthday.

Crown Prince Frederik celebrates his 47th birthday.

Born May 26th, 1968, Frederik is the eldest son of Queen Margrethe II and Henrik, the Prince Consort. As a child Frederik loved the snow, something he shares with his kids.

Prince Frederik may be a royal, but not even he could escape the bowl haircut epidemic! Fortunately his charming smile and those adorable cheeks make him look very sweet.

The young prince grew up to be quite dashing, winning the hearts of many.

But who knew a trip to the 2000 Sydney Olympics would change his world?

It’s easy to forget that before he met Mary, he dated a number of glamorous beauties including model, Katja Storkholm.

But only one won his. Tasmanian beauty, Mary Donaldson changed his life. He popped the question in October 2003. Frederik recalls the exciting time: “I said to her, ‘You cannot say no, you mustn’t say no, you just have to say yes’. And then she said ‘yes’, and it was wonderful. I was so happy.”

The pair wed on the 14th May 2004. The future king of Denmark was overcome with happiness, shedding tears on the happy day. “From today, Mary is mine and I am hers,” he said at the altar. “I love her and I will protect her with all my love.”

Their love continues to blossom.

Mary and Frederik not only love each other, it is clear they are best friends who enjoy joking around.

The Prince took so much from his childhood, and applies it with his own children. The royal family spend as much time together as possible. And rain, hail or shine (fingers-crossed snow!) the family love jetting off for their annual trip to the snow.

Prince Frederik take his job very seriously and always consults the love of his life, Mary.

The pair can go through life’s joys, sadness and even the not-so-exciting times. Together they can get through it.

It is clear that he is such a devoted man.
