Lord Frederick – or Freddie, as he’s referred to in British society circles – and his wife, actress Sophie Winkleman, have announced the birth of their daughter, Isabella Alexandra May.
The newest member of the royal family was born on January 16, and is a little sister for Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina Windsor, 2, whose middle name is in honour of Queen Elizabeth.
Freddie is the Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and grandson of George V, making him first cousins with the Queen.
Of her son and grandchildrens’ arrivals, Princess Michael told UK Hello! magazine, “My granddaughter was two in August and I can’t wait to play with her.”
“I’m besotted and there will be lots of games. I’m sure I’ll be just as besotted with the second one.”
Freddie and Sophie were among the high-profile guests at Prince William’s wedding to the Duchess of Cambridge in 2011.
And there’s no doubt their rambunctious son Prince George, and “little joy of heaven” Princess Charlotte will love having Isabella and Maud over for play dates.
As Princess Anne’s eldest son Peter Phillips says, the wider royal family makes a habit of bringing up their children as friends, especially on the Queen’s country estates.
“We had a lot of fun and there was a lot of space to run around,” he says of playing with princes Harry and William, plus Freddie and his sister Ella. “There was quite a gang of us… We caused quite a bit of chaos and mayhem!”
