Sarah Ferguson has been spotted arriving at Buckingham Palace for crisis talks following the extraordinary fallout from her ex-husband Prince Andrewโ€™s disaster BBC interview.

Fergie was photographed smiling in the back seat of a black Range Rover, as she chatted to a police officer before being admitted through the gates of the Palace in London.

Itโ€™s believed Fergie visited the royal residence to speak with Prince Andrew, who was spotted driving himself into the official royal residence in his Bentley.

Itโ€™s understood the Queen had already left the Palace once Fergie arrived.

The crisis talks come just a day after Prince Andrew announced he would step down from public duties.

โ€œIt has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my familyโ€™s work and the valuable work going on in the many organisations and charities that I am proud to support,โ€ the Duke of York said in a statement.

โ€œTherefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.โ€

He again addressed his connection to Epstein in the statement, calling it โ€œill-judgedโ€.

โ€œI continue to unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein. His suicide has left many unanswered questions, particularly for his victims, and I deeply sympathise with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure,โ€ he said.

โ€œI can only hope that, in time, they will be able to rebuild their lives. Of course, I am willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required.โ€

According to the UKโ€™s Evening Standard newspaper, Prince Charles had intervened in the saga and called on the Queen to relieve Andrew of his official duties, insisting that โ€œswift actionโ€ was needed.

โ€œThis is about protecting the institution of the monarchy itself,โ€ the Prince of Wales reportedly told his mother, a senior royal source told the newspaper.

The source added: โ€œThere could be only one conclusion โ€ฆ The Duke of York had to withdraw from the fray and from public life. It is very sad. Obviously, both the Queen and the prince [Charles] love Andrew โ€“ but the health of the monarchy is too important to risk.โ€

Last week, Fergie threw her support behind the father of her children, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, issuing a statement on her personal Instagram account.

โ€œIt is so rare to meet people that are able to speak from their hearts with honesty and pure real truth, that remain steadfast and strong to their beliefs. Andrew is a true and real gentleman and is stoically steadfast to not only his duty but also his kindness and goodness of always seeing the best in people,โ€ Fergieโ€™s statement began.

โ€œI am deeply supportive and proud of this giant of a principled man, that dares to put his shoulder to the wind and stands firm with his sense of honour and truth. For so many years he has gone about his duties for Great Britain and The Monarch. It is time for Andrew to stand firm now, and that he has, and I am with him every step of the way and that is my honour.โ€

Fergie went on to praise her relationship with Andrew and their ability to put aside their differences and co-parent their daughters.

โ€œWe have always walked tall and strong, he for me and me for him. We are the best examples of joint parenting, with both our girls and I go back to my three Cโ€™s โ€ฆ Communicate, Compromise, Compassion.โ€
