The Duchess of York has fuelled speculation that she and her ex-husband Prince Andrew are back together, saying: “He is still my handsome prince.”
The 53-year-old, who divorced Andrew after 10 years of marriage in 1996, refused to deny rumours that the pair are back together and hinted that the pair would remarry.
“He’ll always be my handsome prince,” she told the UK’s Daily Telegraph at the Bath Children’s Literature Festival.
“It’s really lovely that we are still a family and the story has a happy ending all the time.
“In our everyday, we really respect each other and we honour each other and it’s just lovely to have that sense of integrity, to [do] what we believe is right…And that’s the way we are.”
Last month a mutual friend of the couple revealed it was “only a matter of time” before the pair tied the knot again.
Although a royal spokesman denied the rumour, Fergie’s latest comments have again raised speculation they are indeed an item.
The pair, who both live at the Royal Lodge, the Queen’s former home in Berkshire, have always maintained there was no real reason behind their divorce.
“There was no reason for Andrew and I to get divorced; there wasn’t another person in our lives to go to,” Fergie said back in 1999.
“We got divorced because I had to go out to work and Andrew and I believed it wasn’t right for me to be commercial while I was still in the royal family.”
Andrew hasn’t ruled out remarrying either, talking about the possibility in the past. “Do we have to be married?’ he said during a 2009 interview.
“Well, let’s put it another way, I can neither confirm nor deny the possibility. We have two great children. We still look after them.”
Since the couple split they have both been linked to other people, but neither has found lasting love.
It appears even the Queen is on board with the couple’s reconciliation.
While the duchess hasn’t been invited to any major royal events, including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee or the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, she was invited to spend time with the Queen at Balmoral last month with daughters Beatrice, 25, and Eugenie, 23.
Royal watchers have called this meeting significant as Fergie hasn’t been invited to the Queen’s holiday residence since her divorce.
