Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge herself has come on as guest editor for the Huffington Post in a special piece for Young Minds Matter called ‘Let’s make a real difference for an entire generation of young children’.
The Young Minds Matter is a new series to get people talking about mental and emotional health in young people.
Speaking about her charity work, Catherine said she “often heard some heart-breaking stories about lives that had been torn apart, with devastating impacts for all involved, particularly children.”
What shocked the 34-year-old most was seeing how these issues in people that have had to overcome addiction and destructive behaviours mostly stem from problems in their childhood.
As a result, The Duchess believes mental health is just as important as physical health, but that people are often too afraid or embarrassed to seek help.
“Research published today by The Huffington Post indicates that around a third of parents still worry that they will look like a bad mother of father if their child has a mental health problem,” she said. She believes that schools and local communities need to do more in helping children.
And if little George or Charlotte ever needed help, you can count on Will and Kate to speak up for them.
“Like most parents today, William and I would not hesitate to seek help for our children if they needed it,” she said. “We hope to encourage George and Charlotte to speak about their feelings, and to give them the tools and sensitivity to be supportive peers to their friends as they get older.”
