The fuchsia dress Kate wore in her first published family photos sold out in just two hours!
The frock by Seraphine features a front knot, a flowing empire line and, at $79, an affordable price tag. The dress is now on back-order and won’t be dispatched until after September 16, according to Seraphine’s website.
It’s one of several dresses the Duchess has made famous for the brand, with Seraphine’s ‘Blossom’ lavender floral dress also making an appearance on Kate’s first visit to Kensington Palace with newborn baby George. It was also put on a back-order due to popular demand.
The “Kate effect” has seen designers do a roaring trade. Following Kate’s first appearance with George at the hospital, where she wore a baby blue Jenny Packham frock, that brand’s online store crashed due to overwhelming web traffic.
“The Kate effect is huge and we have been enjoying a 400% growth in sales since it became public that Kate bought Seraphine dresses back in April 2013,” the president of Seraphine Maternity, Cecile Reinaud told Hello! magazine recently.
Of course, it all started with that blue Issa dress Kate wore for the announcement of her and Williams’ engagement in 2010. It sold out within 24 hours and gave rise to a series of imitations – including a version designed by Issa in collaboration with retail chain Banana Republic.
Meanwhile, young Prince George is already proving to be a trendsetter like his mum, with his first baby shawl also flying off shelves.
