The Princess made a secret visit to The Treehouse hospice in Suffolk to meet some of the residents and to learn more about the work of the staff and volunteers during Children’s Hospice Week.

She said the service was “vital” after visiting with some of the families and children with life-threatening conditions.

“Around the clock support is crucial for children receiving palliative care,” she said.

“As patron of EACH (East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices), I have seen first-hand this remarkable and varied work and just how vital the support of staff and volunteers can be to the families of children with life limiting conditions.”

The cause is close to the Duchess’s heart and she has visited hospices around the world, including Malaysia, New Zealand and here in Australia.

She is exploring the service further with the aid of the Royal Foundation, set up in her name and that of her husband Prince William and brother-in-law Prince Harry.
