Something borrowed! Duchess Catherine flaunts dazzling loans from the Queen

Now that's a loan!

Anyone who’s ever seen the stunning Duchess of Cambridge step out on an engagement knows she marches to the beat of her own drum.

The mum-of-two is often in the news for her subtle royal modernisms, such as her rising hemlines or her fondness for platformed shoes.

But it’s clear from her recent events that the 33-year-old is coming into the fold.

The Queen, who uses some of her royal jewelry as tokens of her favour, has recently been loaning out Kate some real gems.

After her dazzling appearance at the recent State Gala, for which she wore the Lotus Flower tiara, Kate has slowly been gathering some very special pieces on loan – a sure sign that the Queen has chosen to bring her to the forefront as a senior royal lady, alongside her other ‘favourite’, Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

And no wonder! After the birth of Prince George and Princess Charlotte and her recent slew of engagements, the Duchess is certainly fulfilling her royal duties with aplomb!

Kate of course started off borrowing something quite special for her wedding – her tiara. The tiara, named the ‘Cartier Halo Scroll’, first belonged to the Queen’s beloved mother, Queen Elizabeth (or the Queen Mum), and was loaned to Kate for her wedding.

Since her wedding, Kate was loaned various brooches for her royal tours. Kate wore this maple leaf brooch, which was given to the Queen Mother by her husband. The Queen has since loaned it out to royal ladies who are embarking on tour to Canada, with both Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Kate giving it a spin.

This loan was another special one. The Queen gave Kate her ‘New Zealand Fern Brooch’ for her to wear whilst on tour in New Zealand in 2014. It was the first time she’d loaned it out since receiving it on her coronation day.

Now that’s a sparkler! Kate, who is not known for wearing glitzy pieces, donned this incredible necklace whilst attending a gala for the Art Room. The Queen dug deep into her jewel vaults and loaned Kate the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace, which was given to her as a wedding gift in 1947. It is the first time the necklace has been loaned.

The Duchess’ recent outing to the State Gala saw some serious jewels being exchanged. Kate chose the Lotus Flower tiara for the occasion, another piece which belonged to the Queen Mother. The tiara has been worn previously by the Queen’s beloved sister, Princess Margaret, and by Princess Margaret’s daughter-in-law.

On top of her tiara, Kate also wore two very special bracelets for the occasion. On the left, the Duchess wears the ‘Queen Mary’s Diamond Bar Choker Bracelet’, which has never been worn by anyone except the Queen Mother. On the right, the Kate wears the Queen’s ‘Wedding Gift Bracelet’, which was given to her by Prince Philip on their wedding day. The Queen has been wearing the bracelet for 68 years and had never loaned it out before.

Yesterday, Duchess Catherine attended a gala for the Art Room and was spotted wearing ‘The Queen Mother’s Sapphire and Diamond Fringe Earrings’, which haven’t been worn since the death of the Queen Mother in 2002.
