In an unprecedented display of affection, the brothers threw their arms around one another as their elated wives, Princess Mary, 47, and Princess Marie, 43, watched on and greeted each other with equal delight.

When asked later about their reunion by the Danish press, Fred, 51, exclaimed it was “great!” to see his only sibling, who he had not been spotted with since June.

It’s a sight that likely brought much joy to the princes’ mother Queen Margrethe, who has long-endured tension between her sons, which is thought to have stemmed from Fred’s previously lax attitude towards his royal duties and even extended to competition between their lookalike wives and favouritism on the part of their parents.

But in Paris, where Joachim, 50, and Marie recently relocated with their kids Prince Henrik, 10, and Princess Athene, seven, there appeared to be nothing but good will between the couples who, despite Mary and Fred’s busy schedule on their royal visit, still made time to share a dinner.

“They all seemed very relaxed and cosy,” says an onlooker. “They clearly had plenty to catch up on.”
