Weddings are an undeniably stressful time – who knew matching flowers to dresses and table runners could induce so much anxiety? But the stress is supposed to be overshadowed by a celebration of love, acceptance and goodwill.

Royal weddings probably have quite an extra bit of stress due to the whole millions of people watching thing, but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s upcoming nuptials is definitely a love marriage, especially when you compare their rule-breaking aesthetic compared to those of royals past. However, one conservative politician has seemingly dismissed this and it focussing solely on aesthetics, not people.

The leader of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, home to Windsor Castle, Eton College and Ascot racecourse, has demanded police purge the area of homeless people before the royal wedding in May.

Simon Dudley, the council’s Conservative leader, spouted a barrage of tweets to remove the “aggressive begging and intimidation” on the wealthy streets of the area.

Tens of thousands of supporters and tourists are expected to descend upon the area for the wedding on the 19th of May at Windsor Castle and the fact people will still be living on the street at this time is a huge concern to Mr Dudley.

“Homelessness is completely unacceptable in a caring, compassionate community such as ours,” he says in a letter to police, according to The Guardian.

However, he adds he has evidence “a large number of adults that are begging in Windsor are not in fact homeless, and if they are homeless they are choosing to reject all support services … In the case of homelessness amongst this group, it is therefore a voluntary choice.”

He also writes: “Obviously, the level of tourist interest is set to multiply with the royal wedding in May 2018, and there are increased concerns from our residents about their safety. The whole situation also presents a beautiful town in a sadly unfavourable light.”

The politician has been condemned the callous ‘heartlessness’ of Mr Dudley’s comments.
