The 40-year-old food critic told The Sunday Times that his 68-year-old mother is “addicted” to Channel Nine cooking series The Hotplate and has already binged-watched eight episodes.
“She started watching just after dinner when we were down in Cornwall a couple of weeks ago and carried on watching all the way through,” Tom told the publication.
Laughing, “She said she was addicted!”
Tom revealed he’s already given his mum some tips on where to eat Down Under ahead of her royal tour of Australia with husband of ten-years, Prince Charles, in November.
“She’s never been to Perth so I’ve been filling her in about all the beauties of Perth, the light, the food, the people,” he quipped.
The charismatic foodie revealed to the Daily Mail that his 68-year-old mother loves sunny Oz despite the long flight.
“She doesn’t particularly like flying, it’s a long flight, but she’ll be all right, she’s excited about coming out,” the revered food writer explained.
“She loves Australia and fell in love with it when they toured the country in 2012 for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. She’s very very excited about it, she’s fascinated by what goes on in the country,” he added.
The British judge has been a welcome addition to our TV screens fans are praising his kind-critiquing manner.
“There are people who are much better at being b** than me,” he laughed during an interview with the Herald Sun*.
Adding, “I think Gordon [Ramsay] is brilliant and a great entertainer but that’s not me.”
The celebrated foodie, who shares two children with wife Sara Buys, admits his love of food stems from his idyllic childhood.
“I think I was born greedy,” he joked.
“I have always loved food. My mother was a great cook – still is. We ate a lot of typical English food – lamb cutlets, baked trout, roast chicken and stews in the winter.”
