Buckingham Palace Guard caught dancing on duty

A royal guard at Buckingham Palace was caught breaking with the tradition of remaining diligently stationery while on duty and instead busting a move.

The unidentified guard was watched on by gleeful tourists and caught on camera and uploaded by YouTube user Andy Richards. As he went about his standard marching duties, the guard in question managed to cheekily incorporate a couple of pirouettes into his routine.

The video seems to be perfectly genuine – not a prank, and was captured while the Queen was away from the Palace on her regular annual holiday at Balmoral – her royal estate in Scotland.

Clearly the guard in question has a creative side that he couldn’t totally suppress at work!

While we love a little flair, we’re not sure that the British Army would feel the same way. The guard is part of an infantry regiment known as the Grenadier Guards who are charged with guarding the royal palace and famed for their tall bearskin hats and their utterly immoveable motionless stance while on duty.

The incident comes not long after the Queen’s Guard military band were caught breaking into the theme tune for HBO’s Game of Thrones during the changing of the guard ceremony. Perhaps the Palace is loosening their famously rigid traditions to make way for a bit of humour?

Then again, perhaps not.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence told the Daily Mail that they have launched an investigation into the video and that: “anyone who is found to fall short of the Army’s high standards can expect to face appropriate action”. Naw, what a buzzkill! We hope this fabulous Grenadier Guard doesn’t get in trouble!
