Mike Tindall, husband of Zara Tindall, might have made history with his latest announcement.
Indeed the former rugby star has shared the happy news that Zara is pregnant with their third child, but instead of a formal statement, Palace confirmation or even a very millennial Instagram announcement, he managed to do it in what we think might the most low-key way in royal history – via an offhand comment in his rugby podcast.
Oh yes, that’s how 2020 we have become.
Even royal baby announcements, which usually come from the Palace with grand headers and formal comments from the relative parties, have now been swapped out for sweeping comments on rugby fan forums.
You wouldn’t have believed it several years ago… though for us, it doesn’t matter which way it was announced – we’re so excited about the news.
Mike confirmed all when he was asked how his week had been on the podcast The Good, The Bad & The Rugby.
“It’s been a good week for me,” he told hosts James Haskell and Alex Payne.
“Had a little scan last week – third Tindall on its way.”
The former rugby star continued to speak about the new bub, telling his fellow rugby pals, “I’d like a boy this time, I’ve got two girls, I would like a boy. I’ll love it whether a boy or a girl – but please be a boy!”
The beauty of a podcast announcement is that there was plenty of opportunity to share extra information, with Mike even talking about possible baby names… in a non-serious manner.
“We’re not sure what to do Covi or Covina – I don’t know where to go with names,” he joked.
The royal pair already share two daughters, Mia, aged six and Lena, aged two.
And the news is all the more welcomed given that it is known Zara tragically suffered two miscarriages before she welcomed Lena in 2018.
Mike spoke of the matter previously, saying: “Z is very good, always careful because of things that have happened in the past, and really looking forward to it.”
While it’s unknown as to how far along Zara is in her pregnancy, it’s all very exciting to know we’ve got another royal baby incoming.
And with Princess Eugenie also due to give birth early next year, it’s looking like 2021 will definitely bring plenty of happy news into the royal fold.
Congratulations to Mike and Zara!
