At 91 years old, it’s fair to saying as the world’s longest-serving monarch Queen Elizabeth has an incredible work ethic.

And as her husband Prince Philip, 96, gets into the throes of his well-deserved retirement, you can hardly blame Her Majesty for wanting to spend her twilight years away from the glare of the spotlight and the rigmarole of gruelling royal schedules.

According to a shock new report, Queen Elizabeth has hatched a plan that would make Prince Charles the Prince Regent.

Over the weekend, a fascinating new report published in UK’s Mail On Sunday has unveiled the revered royal’s game plan should she still be on the throne when she’s 95.

According to royal commentator Robert Jobson, who has spoken with several high-ranking courtiers, Queen Elizabeth will reportedly request a legislation called The Regency Act to be put into place, which will ultimately see Prince Charles given full power of the Kingdom while his mother is still alive.

“Out of the profound respect the Queen holds for the institution of monarchy and its stewardship, Her Majesty would want to make sure that she has done everything she can for her country and her people before she hands over. She is dutiful to her core,” a senior member of the Royal Household claims.

In fact, the monarch is apparently requesting her team brush on this legislation and plans are already underway for Prince Charles to become The Prince Regent in three years time.

Royal aides claim The Queen’s oldest son will take over from her in three years time.

“Her Majesty is mindful of her age and wants to make sure when the time comes, the transition of the Crown is seamless. I understand the Queen has given the matter considerable thought and believes that, if she is still alive at 95, she will seriously consider passing the reign to Charles,” the source adds.

So while it’s not an abdication as such, it would certainly be a groundbreaking shake-up for the British Royal Family.

In the past, Queen Elizabeth herself has spoken about how committed she is to her role.

During her 21st birthday speech back in 1947, a then-Princess Elizabeth vouched she would spend her lifetime serving her people.

“I can make my solemn act of dedication with a whole Empire listening,” she promised at the time.

“I should like to make that dedication now. I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”

Although Clarence House and Buckingham Palace refused to confirm the report, you can hardly blame The Queen for wanting to retire after decades of service.

No matter what happens, the insider claims the times are indeed changing: “We are in uncharted territory right now – a monarchy in transition with a clear shift in power.”
