With the tragic passing of Queen Elizabeth II being announced mere hours ago, many royal watchers are already wondering who will attend Her Majesty’s funeral.

Buckingham Palace announced in the early hours of the morning (Australian time) on September 9, that Britain’s longest-reigning monarch had died, aged 96, in Balmoral, her beloved Scottish retreat.

Here’s everything we know about who will attend the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey.

While the official details for Her Majesty’s funeral have yet to be confirmed to the public, it’s a given all royal family members will attend, including her children, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and the embattled Prince Andrew.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will most definitely be in attendance, while it’s not yet known if their three children George, Charlotte and Louis will accompany them.

While Prince Harry, who is currently visiting the UK, will likely attend (as he did for Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021), there is a big question mark over whether Meghan Markle will join him for the funeral.

After being alerted to his grandmother’s deteriorating condition, Harry travelled to Balmoral to join his family at the Queen’s bedside, but Meghan remained down south.

At the time of the Duke of Edenborough’s funeral, Meghan, who was late in her pregnancy with baby Lilibet, wasn’t able to travel for the service. However, it’s not yet clear whether both of the Sussexes will remain in England to pay their respects.

Aside from royal family members, heads of state, prime ministers and presidents, European royals and key figures from public life will be invited to gather in the abbey, which can hold a congregation of 2,000.

British Prime Minister Liz Truss will likely be among those in attendance.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles is set to meet with the Earl Marshal to officially sign off on the full funeral plans, with the state funeral expected to be held in 10 days’ time.

In the first big ceremonial event before the funeral, the Queen’s coffin will be transported from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall for the beginning of five days lying in state.
