He may not have always had the smoothest of relationships with his daughter Meghan Markle or the British Royal family.
But following the birth of Meghan’s first child with Prince Harry, Thomas Markle cast any bad blood aside to share how ‘proud’ he was about Baby Sussex’s safe arrival.
In a statement released to The Sun, Thomas shared his reaction to the arrival of his grandson.
“I’m delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well,” Thomas said, according to the British publication.
“I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honour.
“GOD bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and GOD save the Queen.”
The royal baby, who was born in the early hours of May 6, is Thomas’ sixth grandchild.

Harry and Meghan’s official Instagram account, Royal Sussex, confirmed the news with a statement reading: “We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz.”
The announcement continued: “The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.”

Buckingham Palace also shared an official statement following the birth, but Meghan’s estranged father Thomas was noticeably absent from the family members mentioned.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earle Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the official palace statement read.
“The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage. Her Royal Highness and the baby are both doing well.”
