As the world stopped to remember fallen serviceman on Remembrance Day, the royals well and truly joined in with them.
It was a weekend full of poignant events as members of the British royal family marked the Centenary of the Armistice and honoured the country’s war heroes for Remembrance Day, and a few departures from royal tradition certainly didn’t go amiss.

While the fab four consisting of Prince William, Duchess Catherine, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan were reunited for the occasion, there was one moment of separation that got people talking.
During the Remebrance Day Service on Sunday November 11th, Queen Elizabeth II, Duchess Catherine and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall stood on a balcony together as they paid their respects to those who lost their lives in World War I.
But many voiced the question we were all wondering – Why wasn’t Meghan standing with them?

But fear not, while Duchess Meghan stood on another balcony during the service it appears there was a perfectly reasonable explanation for the standing order.
According to People, the balcony of each window is near impossible to fit more than three or four women. Furthermore, it is a royal tradition that the royal family be arranged in “pecking order” for official events.
Managing editor of Majesty, Joe Little told People that there was “no slight intended”.
“[Meghan] was still in a good position,” he added.
“She was central rather than the alternative of being in the front row and along the balcony to the left or right.”
Kate’s prime position on the other hand came down to her husband William, who is the eldest grandson of the Queen.
“William being the older, more senior brother would go out [first] with his wife,” Joe said.

Meghan’s prime balcony position, where she was joined by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s wife Elke Budenbender, was also a personal choice from the Duchess, according to a royal source.
“There’s no one laying this out, telling her where to stand. And there were a lot of kids who everyone would want at the front.”

Meanwhile, another moment turned heads when Prince Charles laid the wreath at London’s Cenotaph on the Queen’s behalf.
While the Queen, who still attends plenty of royal events, is showing no signs of slowing down aged 92, it appears she is slowly starting to pass on some of her official duties to the future King.
In fact, this was the second year Charles has stepped in on the Queens behalf for the sombre event, with her eldest son also taking the reigns as the main royal representative at the memorial service in 2017.
Last year, Buckingham Palace announced the shift in a typically low-key statement, explaining: “The Queen wishes to be alongside the Duke of Edinburgh and he will be in the balcony.”

The royals also attended the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday evening.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, who have just wrapped their whirlwind 16-day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga looked at ease as they greeted guests at the event.
Prince William and Duchess Catherine also arrived all-smiles shortly after the newlyweds.
The couples were dressed in similar attire, with both women wearing black long-sleeved ensembles while the royal brothers donned blue suits.

The Queen also arrived looking striking in a black outfit with pearls and a poppy-laden brooch.
On Sunday evening, the royals attended another special service held at Westminster Abbey which marked the centenary of the Armistice.

Meghan wore a stunning dark blue top with a boatneck neckline with a matching skirt and hat, while Kate wore a striking green Catherine Walker coat.
Back to her usual popping colours, the Queen opted for a bright purple ensemble for the occasion.

There’s no denying it was a busy weekend for the royals, but there’s no sign that things will slow down just yet – next up is Prince Charles’ 70th birthday celebrations!
To mark his milestone birthday, the Queen will host a reception and dinner in the State Rooms of Buckingham Palace on November 14. Not only will close family members be there, but several other European royal dignitaries will be flying in, including Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik.
