It would be safe to say it’s been a very busy week in royal circles.
Indeed as Baby Sussex finally made his arrival to the world on Monday, May 6, there’s been a slew of royal related events that have garnered the attention of millions as the world revels in the regal family’s newest addition.
But aside from Harry and Meghan, no one was more excited to meet the new family member than her Majesty The Queen herself, who has reportedly already indulged in the feat – and it would be safe to say it was a particularly poignant moment, though not necessarily for the reason you’d expect.
As the Queen and Prince Phillip attended an event at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, it is understood Elizabeth paid a visit to Meghan and Harry at nearby Frogmore Cottage at the same time, according to The Daily Mirror.
The visit was important not least because it was the first time Elizabeth could lay eyes on her great-grandchild, but also because of a very important royal tradition – the naming process.
Indeed it is understood that Meghan and Harry will have a choice in whether they give their baby a royal title – but it all hangs on the Queen’s approval.
At present, potential royal titles for Baby Sussex include the Earl of Dumbarton. As for the title of a ‘Prince’, this again comes down to the Queen giving it the green light.
On the other hand, Harry and Meghan may choose to forgo a title altogether, which isn’t unlikely given their choice to stray from several other Royal Baby traditions such as the hospital photo call.
Therefore, while we’re certain the Queen’s visit would have predominantly meant cuddles with the newborn galore, there was also some business to discuss.
During her official engagement at Windsor Castle with Prince Phillip, the Queen was also asked about her brand new great-grandchild, to which she seemed thrilled about.
The Queen was reportedly “beaming” as she was congratulated on her new great-grandchild, replying, “Yes, I know”.
And it’s not just the Queen that’s getting to spend some quality time with the new bub – Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland is also staying with the new parents at their home, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
And according to royal sources, the new baby’s first night was “peaceful and emotional”, as revealed by royal correspondent Omid Scobie.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prince William and Duchess Catherine also shared their excitement about meeting the new royal bub, telling guests at a public event that they were “looking forward to meeting the new baby and finding out what his name’s going to be”.
The pair also shared their own pieces of advice to new parents Meghan and Harry, with Kate explaining: “These next few weeks are always a bit daunting the first time round so we wish them all the best.”
Meanwhile, William comically quipped: “I’m very pleased and glad to welcome my own brother into the sleep deprivation society that is parenting.”
