Queen Elizabeth’s 94th birthday was celebrated a little differently this year for a few reasons (perhaps most pertinently because of the COVID-19 pandemic), but that certainly didn’t stop her from having a memorable day filled with special tributes.
Just because members of the royal family couldn’t see the monarch on her big day this year, didn’t mean they couldn’t show their love and well wishes with her in other, unique ways.
Thank goodness for social media, might we add – lucky for us, their sweet tributes were shared for all to see.
Currently holed up at Windsor Castle with husband Prince Philip while the country remains in lockdown, the Queen likely celebrated the day with a slightly more low key approach compared to other years.
The outpouring of love would have been loud and clear to her though.
Duchess Catherine and Prince William led the pack with a tribute posted on Kensington Royal’s Instagram account, which featured a picture of the Her Majesty with her grandson and Catherine at the Chelsea Flower show, which was snapped last year.
“Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very happy 94th birthday today! 🎂🎈” The caption read.
Elizabeth’s eldest son Charles also shared the love up front, posting several images of himself and the Queen via the Clarence House Instagram account as well.
In the archived images, a baby Prince Charles is seen with his doting mum, and in another, Charles and Elizabeth are seen greeting each other after a polo match – with the future King in his gear.
“Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very Happy 94th Birthday 🎈”
And if you were wondering whether Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry might have forgone the public tribute this year due to having suspended their official Instagram account after stepping back as senior royals in March, you’d be right.
But they did find another way to celebrate – FaceTime.
A spokesperson who spoke to HELLO! confirmed that the Duke and Duchess, as well as their baby son Archie, joined in a FaceTime call to The Queen for her big day.
Ever the Instagram whizz, Princess Eugenie also shared a personal tribute to her grandmother on the platform.
The Princess shared some beautiful images of the Queen, including one when she was younger, along with a picture of the pair attending the Maundy Thursday service at Easter last year.
“Wishing a very Happy 94th Birthday to Her Majesty. May today bring joy in a time when families can’t be together celebrating with one another. 🎉🎉 All my love 😍 “.
The Palace’s official account, simply named The Royal Family, also posted a tribute to Her Majesty.
In a long video posted via Instagram TV, the clip featured a number of short videos and images of the Queen throughout her childhood, including a sweet and rare clip of her and Princess Margaret dancing together.
“Happy Birthday, Your Majesty! 🎈🎉 Thank you for your messages today, on The Queen’s 94th birthday,” the caption read.
“In this private footage from the @royalcollectiontrust, we see The Queen (then Princess Elizabeth) playing with her family, including her younger sister Princess Margaret.”
What a special way to celebrate the day – a very Happy Birthday to Her Majesty indeed!
