With only a few days left until the (second) Royal “wedding of the year”, we can’t help but take a look back at the sparkler that Jack Brooksbank, Princess Eugenie’s fiancée and soon-to-be husband, proposed with.

The couple’s engagement was announced in January this year and has been highly anticipated since it was made.

In their first-ever joint TV interview conducted at Buckingham Palace at the time, Princess Eugenie and Jack told The One Show‘s Matt Baker it was an “incredible moment.”

“The lake was so beautiful, it was a special light and I even said ‘this is an incredible moment’ and then he popped the question, which was really surprising even though we had been together seven years. It was the perfect moment because we knew it was going to end up this way. I was over the moon, crying,” 28-year-old Eugenie, who looked resplendent in a recycled floral Erdem dress, explained.

While it’s “no competition”, many have of course compared the gorgeous ring with Eugenie’s cousin-in-law, Duchess Meghan Markle.

According to Channel 4’s Posh Pawn, Eugenie’s ring is worth £100,000 (nearly a whopping $176,000 Australian dollars), double the value of Meghan’s three-diamond ring.

The pink padparadsha sapphire is surrounded by diamonds and bares a striking resemblance to the ring her father, Prince Andrew, gave Sarah Ferguson in 1986.

Meghan’s diamond ring is set on a gold band, and features a diamond from Botswana — a place close to each of their hearts following several trips there as a couple — and two side stones which were taken from Harry’s mother, Diana’s, personal collection.

Eugenie’s engagement ring (L) bares a striking resemblance to her mother’s (R). When Prince Andrew became engaged to Sarah Ferguson in 1986, he gave her a large oval ruby ring set in 10 drop diamonds on a yellow and white gold band.

The centre oval gemstone is not only in the same taste as her mother, but also Princess Diana’s engagement ring too. Deborah Papas, from Prestige Pawnbrokers, told The Sun:

“It is a padparadscha sapphire surrounded by ten brilliant cut diamonds and two pear cut diamonds to give an edge to the standard classic cluster.”

“This beautiful gem is considered amongst the rarest and most valuable of all the corundum varieties.”

Well, we wouldn’t expect anything less from a royal engagement. Both weddings will surely be a spectacle, with a lot of people probably wondering what’s going on with Princess Beatrice, who everyone has suddenly taken interest in.

We’ll be more focused on the dresses, Meghan’s designs have already been leaked– it’s only a matter of time until the words out about Eugenie’s.
